Each year, the scholarship provides fully funded postgraduate study at the world-renowned University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. For Pakistan, a dedicated scholarship is available annually, continuing a legacy that has seen over 70 Pakistani citizens become Rhodes Scholars since 1951, joining a distinguished global community of influential individuals. The selection process is comprehensive, looking beyond academic brilliance to assess a candidate's full potential, including their energy to utilize their talents, moral force of character, and instincts to lead.

Programs Offered

Rhodes Scholars can apply for most full-time postgraduate courses at the University of Oxford. This covers a variety of Master's programs like MSc, MST, MPhil, BPhil, MBA, BCL, and MPP, as well as doctoral programs such as DPhil and PhD in different fields, including:

  • Humanities
  • Social Sciences
  • Sciences
  • Medical Sciences
  • Law
  • Business

It's important to look at the specific requirements for the courses at Oxford and make sure your chosen program fits with what the Rhodes scholarship expects. Usually, the scholarship covers up to three years for a DPhil.

Benefits

The Rhodes scholarship is a fully financed grant that allows candidates to focus only on their studies and personal growth without financial constraints. Key advantages include:

  • Full Tuition costs: This includes all University and College costs for the duration of the degree study at the University of Oxford.
  • Stipend: Scholars are given a large annual stipend to cover living expenses such as housing, food, and personal items. This amounted to about £19,092 per year for the academic year 2023/24 (or £1,591 per month). It should be noted that this stipend is typically insufficient to cover partners or dependents.
  • Travel Costs: Includes economy-class flight from the scholar's home country to Oxford at the start of the scholarship and return journey at the completion of their study.
  • Settling-in Allowance: A one-time payment made to help scholars adjust to life in Oxford.
  • Visa & Health Surcharge: This price covers the cost of a student visa as well as the related International Health Surcharge (IHS), which provides access to the UK's National Health Service.
  • Leadership Development: Scholars get access to unique workshops, seminars, and networking events meant to help them improve their leadership abilities and interact with a global community of prominent people.
  • Community: Becoming a Rhodes Scholar entails joining a lifelong community of outstanding individuals who are global leaders in a variety of fields, building a network of mutual support and collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Citizenship and Residency: Must be a Pakistani citizen who has studied in Pakistan for at least four of the previous ten years, completing a school/college test or an undergraduate degree in Pakistan.
  • Age ranges from 18 to 23 on October 1st of the application year. If you completed your first undergraduate degree later than typical (after October 1st of the year preceding the application year), you will be subject to an extended age limit (under 27).
